Description:
The Loftis Method for Guitar, Book 1 has been used
successfully by guitar teachers nationwide as a primer for beginning students
(ages 6 through adult). Since 1984 The Loftis Method has helped thousands
of student guitarists get off to a fast and fun start. Regardless of age,
all students gain an understanding of the basic fundamentals of "fretboard
logic" while progressing through The Loftis Method. Each new concept
is presented so clearly and succinctly even the six-year-old student will
enjoy playing through this book. The 80 pages of pieces, exercises and charts
cover all six strings in the first position using alphabet letters rather
than notes. For example, an E whole-note on the first string would appear
as the letter E 2 3 4 (the numbers are counted slowly and evenly after playing
the E). The half-notes F and G are presented as F 2, G 2, etc. 17 basic
chords and sharps and flats are also covered in Book 1. The benefit for
the introducing the guitar in this manner is that the student learns fretboard
logic, that is, how the chromatic scale fits on the fingerboard and overlaps
from string to string. This important concept often is missed with the traditional,
"learn by notes" method books. Since the alphabet letters are
correctly placed in the same location as the notes will later appear, students
make a quick and easy transition to note reading in Book 2. The Loftis Method
for Guitar, Book 1 is also ideal for home schooling parents who wish to
introduce their children to the guitar. |
